In this section you will find all the information on parking, driving and public transport in The Hague region.

Parking

Besides parking in public parking lots, there are paid parking options in many areas. Be aware of the times paid parking is required - in some areas it is during business hours, in others, in the evening. There are various options for paying for parking: chip, bank cards, via your mobile phone and less and less with cash.

With a resident’s parking permit you can park in an area where paid parking is in effect so that you do not have to buy a parking ticket from the dispenser.

For resident and visitor parking permits (parkeervergunningen) contact your municipality.

Driving

If you have a foreign driving licence and wish to exchange it for a Dutch driving licence, then you can apply for the exchange at the municipality where you are registered. They will forward your application to the RDW, a public service provider in the mobility chain. If you send the application directly to RDW, the application will not be processed. You need to include the following with your application: Valid identity papers, your foreign driving licence and a photo.

Read the flowchart for specific information about exchanging your driver's licence.

Cycling

The bicycle is the fastest way to move around town. The red paths alongside the roads are bike lanes. When purchasing a bicycle make sure to also purchase an extra lock, which you should use at all times, affixing your bike to a stationery object. Bicycle theft is a problem and extra security precautions are recommended.
