Winternachten International Literature Festival The Hague celebrates its 25th anniversary with a festive edition! From 15 to 19 January 2020 Winternachten welcomes you in theatres, libraries and schools throughout The Hague: from Theater aan het Spui, Filmhuis Den Haag, the Institute of Social Studies Zuiderstrandtheater and PAARD to Theater Dakota, the libraries Schilderswijk, Ypenburg and Nieuw Waldeck. With more than one hundred writers, poets and spoken word artists from home and abroad. With readings, prose, poetry, storytelling, spoken word, author interviews, topical discussions, films and music.
The jubilee edition pays special attention to liberation, and specifically: the decolonization of Western thinking. How free is our mind, what does that freedom mean and are we really free or trapped in the framework of our culture, society and history? This theme is based on the essay by Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Decolonizing the mind, in which he talks about colonized language and how its influence is still noticeable. With this theme, the festival also establishes a link with its first editions, when it focused on The Netherlands' relationship with Indonesia, Surinam, the Antilles and South Africa.
From 15 January to 19 January
You can find the entire Festival Schedule on Writers Unlimited website. Here, you can also buy your tickets (starting at €3,-). Some activities are free of charge, however registration is required.
