Living in Leidschenveen-Ypenburg

At the city’s edge lies Leidschenveen-Ypenburg, a district located to the southeast of The Hague. Once home to a military airport, the area is now largely residential, with over 48,000 inhabitants. Many families residing in the area enjoy its space, greenery and the peacefulness that is offered from its outer-city status. Leidschenveen-Ypenburg is also The Hague’s youngest district. It is made up of four key neighbourhoods: Forepark, Leidschenveen, Ypenburg, and Hoornwijk.

Everyday Life 

The Hague’s city centre is on one side and a vast polder area is on the other. This means residents of Leidschenveen-Ypenburg enjoy easy access to both city life and the peace and quiet of nature. And although the district is on the outskirts of the city, it remains very well connected, bordering the nearby areas of Leidschendam, Nootdorp, Voorburg, and Rijswijk. The Vliet canal and Vlietland are also in close proximity. Here, you can take part in activities such as nature walks, cycling, and water sports like kayaking and sailing. 

Local shopping options in the area include the Ypenburg shopping centre (Ypenburg Winkelcentrum) and the Leidschenveen shopping centre (Winkelcentrum Leidschenveen). In both of these you can find everything from hairdressers and pharmacies to toy shops and food outlets.

Working and Education

Due to its convenient location, many people living in Leidschenveen-Ypenburg commute to surrounding cities – The Hague’s city centre, Delft, and Rotterdam are all within a 30-minute travel window. The slower pace of life makes it a great option for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city after a working day. 

For children, there is an array of schooling options, ranging from primary education to senior schools. For those looking for international education, the British School in the Netherlands’ Leidschenveen Campus is just around the corner. 

Healthcare

Leidschenveen-Ypenburg has all the day-to-day healthcare facilities you could need, including maternity care, local doctors and physiotherapy. The Hague’s major hospital system is also just a short travel distance away. 

Transport Links

Two key motorways, the north-south A4 and east-west A12, cross in Leidschenveen-Ypenburg, offering residents quick and easy travel routes to surrounding areas and to the rest of the country. The district also boasts an excellent public transport network, which includes Den Haag Ypenburg train station.
