Living in Segbroek

Living in Segbroek

Segbroek is one of eight districts in The Hague and lies just northwest of the city centre. First developed in 1988, the area covers seven square kilometres and is comprised of five key neighbourhoods: Valkenboskwartier, Vruchtenbuurt, Bomen- en Bloemenbuurt, Regentessekwartier, and Vogelwijk. Over 60,000 residents enjoy Segbroek’s closeness to the city centre and its own amenities, which include lively shopping streets and great public transport connections.

Everyday Life

Between sea and city, Segbroek offers its inhabitants both city life and beachside living. Hop either side of the district and you’ll find an abundance of leisure activities: head to Westduinpark to enjoy time in nature with the park’s rolling dunes and seaside views, or take a relaxing walk in the local forest, Bosjes van Poot. For those leading an active lifestyle, a wide variety of sports activities, including athletics, cricket and padel, can all be found close to home.

And all your shopping needs can be met on either of the three main shopping streets: Fahrenheitstraat, Thomsonlaan, and Reinkenstraat. The district’s green spaces and family-friendly neighbourhoods ensure a peaceful atmosphere, while staying connected with the liveliness of the city close by. Its mix of housing styles, ranging from traditional family houses and apartments to more modern buildings, attracts a diverse set of people to the area, from young families to working professionals.

Working and Education

The Centrum district of The Hague is easily reached from Segbroek, so those working downtown can enjoy a short and easy commute to work. With many international companies located in the centre, Segbroek is a convenient option for professionals looking to return to a more peaceful neighbourhood after work.

And for schooling, the district offers a number of options. Alongside several Dutch schools in the vicinity, the international schools of The Hague can also be easily reached by bike, car, or public transport.

Healthcare

For daily healthcare needs, Segbroek is well equipped. As well as local doctors and physicians, The Hague’s main hospital, Haaglanden Medisch Centrum (HMC), is easily reachable from this district. And given The Hague’s proximity to the neighbouring city of Leiden, the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) – a major academic hospital – is also nearby.

Transport Links

Segbroek is well connected to the rest of the city by public transport. Trams and buses run regularly along convenient routes to surrounding areas. The district’s closeness to Centrum also means that The Hague’s centre is only 20 minutes away by bicycle. And from The Hague Central Station, the rest of the country is easily accessed.
