Taxi getting around The Hague region

Taking a taxi in the Netherlands

There are times when taking a taxi is the easiest way to get from point A to point B. Taxis are readily available in the Netherlands though it is important to note that hailing a taxi on the street is not the norm in the Netherlands. Instead, get a taxi at official taxi ranks, for example at train stations, or book one by phone or online. Platforms such as Uber and Bolt are also available.

Taxi stands can be found at most train stations, hotels, and tourist attractions. The easiest way to get a cab, though, is to book ahead. If you’re staying in a hotel or eating at a restaurant, ask the staff to call you a taxi, or use an app.

One thing to be wary of is unlicensed taxis, even if they offer cheaper rates. Official Dutch taxis are recognisable by their blue licence plates and lit ‘taxi’ signs (unlit when a taxi is occupied by other passengers) and the driver’s identification will be visible. If you’d like to save money on your cab fare, sharing taxis is not uncommon in the Netherlands.
