Within Europe, The Hague is known as a central point for cybersecurity – there are hundreds of organisations employing around 15,000 professionals in total operating in this sector. Other key organisations that call the city home are the NATO Communications and Information Agency and Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency.

The Netherlands’ Online Security Sector

For businesses and consumers alike, online security has never been more important. As we increasingly live our lives online, more protections must be in place to keep us collectively safe within digital environments. And with many national and international peace, justice, and policing institutions also in the city, numerous cybersecurity companies have been drawn to The Hague region.

The Hague Security Delta

The high density of organisations in The Hague and nearby regions, known as The Hague Security Delta (HSD), is the largest security cluster in Europe. In total, over 275 companies and institutions form this organisation. Their main focus is cybersecurity, but they are also involved in national security, urban security, forensics, and critical infrastructure, among other fields.

Several key developments and breakthroughs in the industry originate from the region, with companies such as KPN, Fox-IT, Siemens, Thales, Capgemini, and others leading the way. To encourage collaboration and innovation, the HSD has created a campus in the city centre where professionals can go to work, conduct meetings, attend events, or join training sessions. The facilities on campus include lab spaces where teams can meet to develop new security solutions.
