student registration

Make an appointment for registration as a student

Student registrations at The Hague International Centre will start on 26 January 2026.  You can make your appointment from 19 January 11:00 hrs (CEST) on this page.

Welcome to The Hague!

To officially live and study here, you need to register with the municipality and get your BSN (Citizen Service Number). It is an essential step, as you need a BSN to open a bank account, get health insurance or work a student job!

What to bring to your appointment

  • Valid identification (passport or, if you have EU nationality, your national identity card),
  • Hard copy (printed) proof of occupancy:
    • Rental / tenancy agreement (must be valid at time of appointment)
    • Home purchase deed
    • Signed statement by the main occupant of the house, and please bring a hard copy of the ID of the main occupant of the house and a hard copy of the rental/tenancy agreement or purchase deed of the house,
  • Residence permit or letter of approval from the IND (if applicable).

It is very important to bring all of the required documents to your registration appointment. Otherwise, we cannot register you and you will need to make another appointment.

You will receive your BSN during the appointment.

Important:  You may be able to make an appointment earlier to register at Segbroek District Office (via denhaag.nl and not The Hague International Centre). We advise you to wait until student registration opens on 19 January to make your appointment through this page, as you will not receive your BSN directly at Segbroek District Office. As a result you might need to wait for your BSN longer. We cannot change this once you went to the appointment.

IND (Immigration & Naturalisation Service)

Are you a non-EU Student? Learn more about making an appointment to provide your biometrics and collecting your residence permit during the IND Student Collection days on the website of the IND.

Good to know:

You can use your BSN to arrange other formalities, such as opening a bank account, DigiD, arranging a Dutch health insurance (if required) and starting a student job;
