Protect yourself and your baby against whooping cough

Published

Are you expecting a baby?

As of mid-December 2019, expecting mothers are encouraged to receive a vaccine against the whooping cough (Dutch: ‘kinkhoest’). This shot will encourage your body to make antibodies against the whooping cough bacteria, protecting both you and your unborn baby.

You can get the injection from your 22nd week of pregnancy until your due date, at no cost. Do note that the earlier you receive the shot, the better, in case you go into labour prematurely.

The Department for Vaccine Supply and Prevention Programmes have provided more information on the whooping cough shot in this brochure.
