Europa Experience opens in The Hague
To mark the celebration of the 9 May, Europe Day, the new Europa Experience was opened at the Grote Marktstraat in The Hague. This is a new educational centre dedicated to the European Union. This free-to-visit venue is a project jointly developed and managed by the European Parliament and the European Commission.
An immersive EU educational centre
Through interactive stations and an immersive 360° cinema, visitors can discover how the European institutions work, learn more about their European representatives, and explore how the EU shapes their daily lives. Don't be scared of complicated texts or long educational sessions. This is a place to get to know the EU in a fun way! Explore a mix of multimedia and interactive exhibits, including a 360° cinema. For groups of 16 to 32 persons, there is a Role Play Game available where you can experience first hand how EU decision making works. For about two hours, participants take on the role of Members of the European Parliament to discuss, negotiate and vote on EU directives. Reservations can be made through the website of Europa Experience.
The city of peace and justice
The Europa Experience reinforces The Hague's long-standing reputation as the city of peace and justice and supports the city's existing educational landscape. Next to ProDemos, the Binnenhof, the Peace Palace, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and Spui Campus of Leiden University, Europa Experience offers a fresh perspective on European Democracy and its value for The Hague.
Robert van Asten, Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Strategy and European Affairs explains:
“The European Union is important to The Hague — and with 29 European organisations based here, The Hague is equally important to the European Union. The Europa Experience is a valuable addition to our educational landscape, particularly in the areas of democracy and the international rule of law.”
