Have you received a letter from the Dutch Tax Administration asking you to complete the Opgaaf Wereldinkomen (Worldwide Income Statement)? This form is used to assess your total income from both the Netherlands and abroad and may affect the allowances you received, such as healthcare, rent or childcare allowance. In this article, we explain what the Wereldinkomen form is, why you may have received it, and what information you need to provide.

1. What is Wereldinkomen?
The Opgaaf Wereldinkomen is a worldwide income statement. In this form, you must report the income you received during a specific tax year, both inside and outside the Netherlands. This may include salary, self-employment income, pension income, rental income, assets, or other income received in another country.

2. Why did I receive this form?
You usually receive this form if you or your partner received a Dutch allowance during the relevant tax year, such as healthcare allowance (Zorgtoeslag), rental allowance (Huurtoeslag), or daycare allowance (Kinderopvangtoeslag). The Allowances Department (Toeslagen) uses this information to check whether the allowance you received was calculated correctly based on your actual worldwide income.

3. When do I usually receive the Wereldinkomen form?
Usually, the Wereldinkomen 2025 form is received around the end of April 2026, and you may be asked to submit it before August 2026. However, this may differ. The exact deadline is always mentioned in the letter you receive from the Belastingdienst/Toeslagen, usually at the top right of the letter. You should always follow the date stated in your letter.

4. Is Wereldinkomen the same as the Dutch income tax return?
No. These are two different documents. The Dutch income tax return is used to calculate your annual taxes. The Wereldinkomen form is mainly used to check whether your Dutch allowances were correct. This means that even if you have already filed your Dutch income tax return, you may still need to complete the Wereldinkomen form.

5. What information should I include in the form?
You must include your worldwide income for the tax year mentioned in the letter. This means income earned in the Netherlands and income received abroad. It is important to check the year carefully, because the form only refers to the specific tax year requested by Toeslagen.

6. What happens after I submit the Wereldinkomen form?
The Allowances Department will review your reported income and compare it with the allowance you received. If you received more allowance than you were entitled to, you may be asked to pay part or all of it back. If you received less than you were entitled to, you may receive an additional refund.

7. What should I do if I receive this form and do not know how to complete it?
You should not ignore the form. It is important to complete and send it back before the deadline stated in the letter. If you are unsure which income should be declared or how to complete the form correctly, it is advisable to request professional assistance to avoid mistakes or future corrections.
