Fun activities to do during Spring Break in The Hague!

Published

Spring break is just around the corner and starts early this year. From mid-February, most children have a whole week off from school to relax and have fun! If you’re looking for events or activities to make the most of your holidays, we’ve put together our best tips to help you enjoy it to the fullest! The Hague is home to various museums, parks and petting zoos, theatres, the beach and much more!

Museums

The Hague offers a fantastic selection of museums that make learning fun for children of all ages. Whether your child loves stories, science, art, or adventure, The Hague’s museums offer plenty of inspiring places to discover, learn, and play.

A favourite among families is the Children’s Book Museum, where kids can step into the world of stories, explore imaginative installations, and even create their own tales. With playful zones for both younger and older children, it's one of the city’s top recommendations for a family day out.
Another great option is Museon-Omniversum, a combined science museum and giant-screen cinema. Children can dive into interactive exhibits about the earth, humans, and the future, or enjoy impressive dome films about nature, space, and the planet.
For creative adventurers, Kunstmuseum Den Haag features the Chambers of Wonder, a series of interactive art rooms designed especially for curious young visitors. With hands‑on activities and playful assignments, it’s perfect for kids who love exploring visual art.
For young car enthusiasts, the Louwman Museum is a must‑see. Home to more than 130 years of automotive history, it showcases beautiful classic cars, including famous film vehicles.

The Hague is of course also famously home to the Girl with a Pearl Earring painting at the prestigious Mauritshuis. The museum houses the Royal Cabinet of Paintings consisting of 854 objects, mostly Dutch Golden Age paintings. The collection contains works by some of the Netherlands' most famous artists - including Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn.

For those who are into modern and contemporary art, you might be interested in Museum Voorlinden - where you can take a walk at the bottom of a swimming pool without getting wet!  Visit the Escher Museum for a different kind of modern art experience. The intriguing drawings of the world-famous artist, Escher can be seen in the former Winter Palace at the Lange Voorhout. On Wednesdays during school holidays, Escher Museum organise a special workshop in which adults and children can make their own tessellation to learn more about graphic art and what makes the work of M.C. Escher so special.

A lot of museums offer special activities during Spring break, which can be found on the websites of the museums.

Other activities

If the Spring break period grants us some nice and sunny weather, you can visit one of the many petting zoos or 'stadsboerderij' in The Hague, such as 't Beestenspul City Farm in the heart of Zeeheldenkwartier. If you are in for an adrenaline ride, the family theme park Drievliet could be a great option, or perhaps you want to learn how to ski or snowboard without the long journey to the Alps; that's possible too! Visit Snowworld in Zoetermeer or de Uithof in The Hague.
Not feeling that adventurous? The Hague is also home to various parks including the Zuiderpark which has a petting zoo of its own, along with spots to play football, skate, barbecue and more. There's also the Scheveningse Bosjes which provide a wonderful nature experience, filled with unique shrubbery, walking trails, playgrounds and picnic spots.
If you are in the film mood, Filmhuis Den Haag is host to the latest arthouse movies and features several themed film festival events throughout the year - often showing classics from yesteryear.
We advise you to always keep an eye on the agenda at DenHaag.com for the latest events happening in our beautiful city. There is a wide variety of fun activities and interesting things to see and do throughout The Hague region, so there is something for the whole family to engage with this Spring break!
