Moving within the Netherlands The Hague region

Moving within the Netherlands

Report your change of address

The Netherlands is divided into municipalities (gemeenten). When you first arrive in the country, you must register with your local municipality in the Dutch municipal database (BRP). If you later move to a different address within the Netherlands, you are required to update your BRP registration accordingly.

You must report your change of address to your (new) municipality within five days of moving. Once you have notified the municipality, many government bodies are automatically informed of your new address. If you fail to register your move, you may be fined. An incorrect address in the BRP can also affect your benefits and tax matters.

Moving within the same municipality

Your municipality must be informed of your new address, even if you are moving within the same municipality or city. In most cases, you can report your new address online using your DigiD, in writing, or in person at a municipal counter. Once your request is processed, you will automatically deregister from your previous address.

How to report your move within…

Moving to another municipality

When moving to a different municipality, you will have to report your change of address to your new municipality of residence. Once your request has been processed, your registration will be updated to reflect your new address, and your previous municipality will be notified automatically.

The Hague International Centre

If you registered through The Hague International Centre and are moving to or within The Hague, you may report your change of address directly to our Centre. Please fill out and sign this address registration form and send a copy by email to internationalcentre@denhaag.nl together with:

  • a copy of the passports of all individuals who will be moving.
  • a copy of the signed rental or purchase agreement in your name. Or a permission form signed by the main tenant or owner of a property, allowing your registration at that address.

Please note that this does not apply to international students. Student registrations are processed separately and are only available during specific periods. Are you an international student? You can change your address by following this procedure
