Parking permit The hague region

Parking

Paid parking is common in The Hague. Whether you’re a resident or just visiting, there are different types of paid parking. If you have your own car and are a resident of a paid parking area, you will be able to apply for a resident parking permit as well as a visitor parking permit for your guests. Hover from April 2026, as part of The Hague Parking Strategy 2021–2030, residents are no longer eligible for a parking permit if they have the option to park on their own property. This measure aims to prevent on-street parking where private parking is available. Use the address checker to check if you are eligible for a parking permit at your address.

Resident Parking Permit

The process of applying for, or extending a resident parking permit differs per municipality. One way of applying for a resident parking permit in The Hague is online. This is the easiest, most efficient way. You must have a DigiD and will sometimes be asked for additional documentation, depending on your circumstances.

Can't renew your parking permit online? Then please visit the Laak or Scheveningen district council offices. Municipal staff will help you.

The following links will tell you how to apply for a resident parking permit in your municipality:

Parking Permit Applications and Renewals for Privileged Status Holders

As a privileged status holder, you can only apply for a parking permit online if you are registered with the municipality and have a DigiD. In all other cases, you will need to visit a district council office in person.

If one or more of the following situations apply, we ask you to visit a district council office:

  • You do not have a DigiD;
  • You are not registered with the municipality in the BRP-database. You will need to bring a PROBAS extract, issued by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with you;
  • You have a CD, BN or GN license plate.

Visitor Parking Permit

If you’re a registered resident in your municipality and are planning on having guests, a visitor parking permit is available. These permits contain parking credits that provide a limited number of parking credits per calendar year. The number of hours depends on which municipality and specific area you live in.

City Parking

Visiting The Hague for a day? Park and Ride or public transport are your best options to avoid traffic and save money. In most parts of The Hague, paid parking is required and it mostly requires digital or card payments. Depending on your destination, a parking garage or combined means of travel could be cheaper. P+R facilities (park and ride) offer low-rate parking spaces on the outskirts of the city – an excellent option for a day trip to the city centre or The Hague Beach. This map for paid parking in The Hague offers an overview of paid parking zones in The Hague.

From 1 April 2026, parking charges have been updated on 22 streets in the ‘Oude Centrum’ and ‘Scheveningen’. A progressive tariff will apply, meaning parking becomes more expensive the longer you stay.

These changes are intended to discourage long‑term street parking, make it easier for residents to find a space, and create more room for pedestrians and cyclists, while keeping shops accessible.
