Nightlife

Nightlife

The Hague and nearby towns have plenty to do after dark. Whether you want to dance until the early hours or have a relaxing meal by the beach, there is something for you. From lively terraces and bustling restaurants to music venues and nightclubs, find out how you can spend your evenings in the Hague.

Nightlife Hotspots

From the centre to the beach, The Hague has several key areas for eating, drinking, and dancing. By day, the historic centre offers the city's main sightseeing spots, including the Noordeinde Palace, the Dutch parliament at the Binnenhof, and more. But by night, the same areas become entertainment hotspots. Many of the restaurants at the grand Plein square turn into bars and nightclubs after hours. Nearby, the Grote Markt has some of the most popular terraces in the city.

In the warmer months, head to the seaside. Scheveningen hosts many beachside bars and restaurants where you relax and unwind. But whatever the weather, there are also always plenty of gezellige (cosy) bars to discover all across the city.

Music, Nightclubs, and Cultural Events

If you prefer a more cultural evening, The Hague has some premium cinemas, theatres, music venues, and nightclubs. Amare, in the centre, hosts much of The Hague's classical music and dance, while jazz concerts can be found at many small bars in the city. For pop, Paard hosts most of the biggest bands, while smaller venues such as Musicon and Popradar offer interesting options for live music. Many bands also play at PIP Den Haag, an establishment that turns into one of The Hague's most popular nightclubs after nightfall.

For something a little quieter, head to a local cinema. There are many in the area, including Pathé theatres and independent film houses such as Filmhuis Den Haag and Theater Dakota. For more theatre, dance, and cabaret, try Diligentia and Pepijn or see what performances the National Theatre have scheduled at their venues in The Hague: Theater aan het Spui and Koninklijke Schouwburg. If you don't speak Dutch, they also offer a limited non-Dutch programme and more shows can be found at STET: The English Theatre.

Delft

Nearby Delft also has much to offer during the evening. As a lively student city, many young people flock to busy bars and nightclubs across the town. But there are also plenty of traditional pubs (bruin cafés) and a huge open-air terrace at the Beestenmarkt where you can enjoy a drink underneath the sycamore trees. Other terraces can be found at the Brabantse Turfmarkt and Burgwal.

Nightlife Beyond The Hague

There's something for everyone in The Hague, but the fun doesn't have to stop there. Nearby Rotterdam offers even more music venues, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, with many public transport connections making it an easy trip. Meanwhile, it's not much further to Amsterdam, with seemingly unlimited options for cultural events and nightlife. Catch the night train home or consider booking a night in a hotel for a change of scenery.
